ROOT PLANING & CURETTAGE

ROOT PLANING AND CURTTAGE
Root planing is an additional therapy provided by dentists, hygienists or dental therapists, as an adjunct to a careful toothbrushing regime at home, to halt the progression of gum disease. This treatment will not be efective unless you are also cleaning your teeth well yourself.

Dental curettage and root planing is the basis of the treatment of swollen gums because there is no health if the calcified deposits (tartar) that accumulate on the teeth over time are not removed. Tartar can be located on the gum but frequently it is also situated below the gum and out of sight. The call subgingival calculusIt is the most dangerous because it is the one that is closest to the bone and is responsible for the destruction of the bone that supports the teeth and molars.

DENTAL CURETAGE will be the necessary procedure to remove the calculus deposited on the tooth.

ROOT CURETAGE, it is the same procedure but performed below the crown and it is often a procedure performed blindly because we intend to remove the tartar that cannot be seen, because it is below the gum and is in what we call the periodontal pocket.

ROOT STRAIGHTENING is the indispensable complement to dental curettage and root curettage because although curettage removes the calculus, it requires smoothing to eliminate bacterial toxins that remain impregnated in the root of the tooth so that the dental surface is biologically acceptable for the gingiva and can reattach to the tooth after the cleaning procedure is done and heal.

Dental curettage and dental straightening should not be considered as different procedures, but rather they are procedures performed simultaneously and the difference between them is due to the intensity of the movement. Curettage is more intense and requires more force to pop the stone. On the contrary, root planing is a smoother movement that aims to make the root surface very polished.
